This is the small uninhabited artificial island in Lake Ladoga, far sightedly constructed by Peter the First. It's known as scrap of land figured prominently in history of blockaded Leningrad. This island became peace of land out of harm's way and last hope for thousand lives hit by the famine.
There was a Soviet Union Navy Base during World War II. The main function of Base was to provide covering fire for food convoys and casualty evacuation people of blockaded Leningrad. Soviet Union Navy garrison was too small, 90 militaries armed with three-gun turret battery and three machine guns. However it is difficult to not overestimate the benefit from the point.
The year 2017 sees the centenary of act of bravery Soviet soldiers, killed in autumn 1942. More then 65 soldiers were killed during the battle on the 20th of October 1942.
Now Suho is known as an island that saved blockaded Leningrad.
