January 1, 2025 marks 30 years since the establishment of the National Rescue and Firefighting System (KSRG) - the foundation
of Poland's internal security. This system, established under the Fire Protection Act of 1991, played a key role in
protecting the life, health, property and environment of citizens in the face of various threats.
The official principles of operation of the KSRG were defined in 1994, and a year later the system began its
operational activity. The first years of its existence brought rapid development - in 1995, 1,664 Volunteer Fire
Department units (OSP) were included in the system. Today (2025) KSRG is an extensive network of rescue units,
which includes, among others: 5,155 Volunteer Fire Department units, 504 rescue and fire-fighting units of the
State Fire Service (PSP) and specialized rescue groups operating at the national level.
