More than one million Kazakhstani people fought in the ranks of the Red Army. More than 600,000 of them died at the front. Soldiers from Kazakhstan distinguished themselves with such bravery and courage that more than 100,000 people were awarded military orders and medals, and more than 500 were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Eighty years ago, the Great Patriotic War, as World War II is known in the former Soviet Union, came to an end. On this anniversary, radio amateurs in the Republic of Kazakhstan will go on the air to celebrate the victory over Nazi Germany.
