The "Lanterna di Genova", one of the world's oldest working lighthouses and the iconic symbol of the city, is set to be the star of a special amateur radio event. This weekend, August 16th and 17th, 2025, the lighthouse will participate in the International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend (ILLW).

Members of the A.R.I. Genoa section will be on the air with the special call sign II1L, broadcasting the history and charm of this landmark to a global audience. This marks the 28th time that Genoa's radio amateurs have participated in the event, thanks to a collaboration between A.R.I. Genova, W.A.I.L., the Municipality of Genoa, Mu.MA, La Lanterna di Genova, and A.R.M.I.

From 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on both days, operators will be active from the tower, transmitting across various bands from 80 to 2 meters. They will use multiple modes including SSB, CW, FM, and digital, allowing radio enthusiasts from around the world to connect with a prestigious ILLW reference: IT-0005.

Antennas will be set up from the middle floor of the tower down to the square, promising excellent coverage. The station's presence will be announced on major clusters and on its dedicated QRZ.com page for II1L.

All amateur radio operators who successfully make contact will receive a special QSL card to confirm the QSO. An electronic version will be available via E-QSL, while a physical copy will be sent exclusively through the bureau.

This is a fantastic opportunity for radio operators and shortwave listeners everywhere to "connect" with the Genoa Lighthouse from any part of the world.
