With this ship, the British tried to block the Ostend harbor on the night of 9 on 10 May 1918, in order to prevent access to the North Sea for the German submarines.
HMS Vindictive was sunk in the port channel of Ostend. This raid cost the British 8 deaths, 10 missing and 29 wounded.
Close to where the ship was sunk, the memorial is now a silent witness of the Great War.
