Uganda
The Republic of Uganda is a small African country. It is an amazing country with an interesting culture, unique wildlife, and incredible historical facts. It is a true gem of East Africa. A country where giraffes, elephants, lions, and hippos roam freely, and the abundance and beauty of the flowering fields make one think that perhaps the scientists who believe that life on Earth began here, at the source of the Nile River, are right. It is no coincidence that the early name for Uganda, Buganda, translates as “land of people.” But we will not dwell on how likely this is, but simply talk about this beautiful place.

A little bit of geography and some more interesting facts
To quickly find Uganda, just locate Africa, the equator, and the famous Lake Victoria. There it is, Uganda. Here, northwest of the second largest freshwater lake in the world.
This is a land where the African jungle gradually gives way to the African savannah, and the sun rises and sets at the same time every day. And no one ever wonders how long the day is in Uganda. Of course, 12 hours. Then comes a 12-hour night, which ends at 7 a.m. sharp, giving way to the sun, which returns at 7 p.m. to plunge the mountains, parks, cities, and villages of Uganda into darkness. And so it goes, all year round.
What's more, 250 days a year, thunderstorms rumble in the skies above Uganda, and the locals simply ignore these frightening sounds and are not afraid of thunder at all.
On a global scale, Uganda also stands out: this small country is home to the world's first natural national park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is famous all over the world.
In addition, if you are not aware, according to ornithologists, 11% of all birds in the world live in Uganda.
So maybe Eden really was here? Perhaps.

Uganda – a country of contrasts
In general, the Republic of Uganda is considered the friendliest country on the African continent. The Ugandans' tradition of hospitality is known far beyond the country's borders.
At the same time, any visitor to the country may find themselves in a very unpleasant situation if, for example, they buy a trinket or souvenir from a street vendor. There is no aggression. Nothing to be afraid of. You could simply end up in jail for 5-7 days because of a harmless purchase, completely unaware that street trading is illegal in the country. But the responsibility for breaking the law is not placed on the locals, but for some reason on tourists who, out of ignorance, willingly buy souvenirs, art, and fruit from vendors. So, you should know that a cheap bunch of bananas can cost you a lot if you buy it on the street instead of in a store.
Here are some more interesting facts. In Uganda, less than 1% of the population is atheist. About 85% of Ugandans are Christians, about 10% are Muslims, and the rest of the population are followers of other faiths, which Christians and Muslims treat with great respect. In the Ugandan capital, Kampala, the golden domes of Christian churches and mosques sparkle in the sun alongside colorful Hindu temples.
But at the same time, the country has been plagued by frequent armed conflicts for about 50 years, and recently, a war has been waged by an army with a surprising name: the Lord's Resistance Army. The LRA's actions have resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and millions of refugees, as well as the mass abduction of children, who are turned into soldiers. The LRA believes that only children untouched by sin can build a normal society. Is this why children become fighters and kill civilians?
Such is the strange state of moral and spiritual values in little Uganda.

Poor residents of a rich country
It is difficult to say why the rich natural environment, magnificent natural parks inhabited by exotic animals, and abundance of fresh water (unlike other African countries) do not make Uganda richer. Not only that, it is one of the poorest countries in the world: about 40% of the population lives on little more than a dollar a day, and in villages, about 85% of residents live below the poverty line. That is why the average age of the Ugandan population is 15 years. People hardly ever live longer than that.
Cannibalism – fact or fiction?
Unfortunately, Uganda is also notorious for its former president, Idi Amin, who ruled the country in the 1970s and was known as a bloody dictator who ate his opponents who disagreed with his policies.
The current president, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who has been in power for 25 years and came to power during the difficult period of struggle against the cannibalistic regime of Idi Amin, has done a lot for Uganda, reducing unemployment and introducing free education and affordable healthcare. but the country remains very, very poor.
If we add to this the fact that Uganda is home to the smallest people on Earth – the Pygmies – that real mountain gorillas live here in their natural habitat, and that it is the only country in the world where it is possible to officially buy a leopard's life for money, and that visiting girls are prohibited by law from wearing short skirts, and that it was here that Mahatma Gandhi's ashes were to be scattered according to his will, it becomes clear that this is an extraordinary country!
