4U1UN – United Nations Headquarters – KO8SCA, Adrian, was QRV again as 4U1UN yesterday. He started up just moments before 1700Z and finished around 2100Z. Adrian operated mostly on 20 CW with a short stint on 40 CW. QSL via HB9BOU and LoTW.

YASME FOUNDATION IS RECOGNIZING THE KEY PEOPLE BEHIND RE-ACTIVATING 4U1UN
The project took over four years to complete; James Sarte, K2QI and Adrian Ciuperca, KO8SCA are the key amateur operators who worked on the project and as such they will be the recipients of the Yasme Excellence Award 2020.
The team used a slick in-house remote concept, whereby the station is located at the 42nd floor while the control head is located on the ground floor of the UN Headquarters in New York City.

ARRL Hudson Divisions Director Ria Jairam N2RJ and Yasme Director Martti Laine OH2BH will be jointly presenting the Yasme award at the UN Headquarters in New York City on Friday, March 6, 2020.

This ceremony will be topped with the first-ever FT8 QSO from 4U1UN – with its inventor Joe Taylor, K1JT at the controls. First twenty-five QSOs will be awarded by U.N special certificate signed by Joe.

What perfect timing! — following the ceremony the group of K2QI, G6CBR, N2RJ, OH2BH, KO8SCA and VE7NY will activate 4U1UN in the ARRL DX SSB Contest.

By the way, this will be a much more complex exercise than you might imagine, since, for security reasons, the operators will need to be escorted at all times by the UN security officers. See you in the air!

4U1UN station will be active from United Nations HQ New York, USA during coronavirus pandemy COVID-19 Lockout.

4U – United Nations Headquarters – 4U1UN will specifically be looking for South Pacific DXers Saturday. The arrangements are first on 14.085 MHz on FT8 at 0100Z followed by 7.056 MHz at 0430Z. This will be on normal FT8, not Fox and Hound. Again this arrangement is specially for VK/ZL and the South Pacific.

UNITED NATIONS, 4U1UN AND W2I/STAYHOME PARTCIPATE THE JUNE, 06-07, 2020, ON-THE-AIR COVID-19 COMMUNICATION EVENT


James K2QI, President of United Nations Radio Club (UNARC) reports that on June 6 & 7, 2020, the U.N. HQ station 4U1UN will be QRV in support of the global STAY HOME movement, an event endorsed by IARU President, Tim Ellam as well as under the patronage of the Foreign Minister of Finland, Pekka Haavisto.

The United Nations Amateur Club 4U1UN, as well as its sister stations 4U1GSC (operated as 4U9STAYHOME) and 4U1A (operated as 4U2STAYHOME) look forward to making contact with many stations during this special event.

Headed by Ria Jairam, N2RJ and Peter Dougherty, W2IRT the special event W2I/STAYHOME on June 6 & 7, 2020 will be activated on SSB, CW and FT8 simultaneously.
