What will you remember about your trip to Colombia?

Colombia can confidently be called one of the most interesting and vibrant countries in South America. Its name is associated with Christopher Columbus, who was the first to discover the continent.
Archaeological excavations confirm that people lived in this territory as early as the 15th-12th centuries BC. Therefore, its history is truly fascinating. One of the most interesting periods that had a tremendous impact on the formation of the country was the years of Spanish colonization. For this reason, Spanish is the official language of the country today.

The Caribbean Sea and the Pacific coast

Colombia is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west. Its waters are quite rough and characterized by fairly strong tides. That is why you should be very careful when choosing a place to swim. It is best to give preference to beaches that are specifically designated for this purpose.
This is the safest option and allows you to truly enjoy an unparalleled vacation.
As for the Caribbean Sea, which Colombia borders in the north, it can amaze anyone with its beauty. In addition, it is much calmer than the Pacific Ocean.
The country is also rich in amazing landscapes. Flora and fauna are just as much a part of Colombia's attractions as the countless architectural structures from different eras.
Thanks to this unique combination, Colombia officially ranks third among all countries in the world in terms of the diversity of its natural landscapes. You can enjoy the local beauty in numerous parks and reserves, which are easy to find in any corner of the country.

The place where coffee is born

Santa Fe de Bogotá is the capital and largest city of Colombia. Just 50 km from the town is the world-famous salt cathedral. It is 23 meters high. Carved entirely out of salt rock, it can hold more than 10,000 people at a time.

The salt crystals covering the arches and walls of the structure create an amazing play of light that leaves a lasting impression. Not far from the capital are the picturesque Tekendam waterfalls.

The vast historical region known as Terra Paiza deserves special attention. It is home to authentic ethnic groups, each with its own way of life, myths, and cultural traditions.

Today, this area is increasingly referred to as the “Coffee Zone.”

Numerous tourist routes and the interest of visitors to this region of the country contribute to its rapid development. As the name suggests, it is here that the legendary Colombian coffee grows. During the harvest season, small hotels and inns can barely cope with the endless stream of tourists.

Colombia is an amazing country. It perfectly combines stunning nature, historical monuments, and an unusual culture. When you come here, you can immerse yourself in a wonderful world and get unforgettable impressions.

Among the most popular attractions that everyone should see are La Laja Cathedral, San Francisco Church, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta National Park, and many others. The Canyon de Cristales is particularly noteworthy—a multicolored river considered one of the most beautiful and unusual water bodies on the planet.

Safety first

But it's not just coffee that has made Colombia famous around the world. Many people consider this country to be incredibly dangerous due to the flourishing mafia and active drug production. That's why, when traveling overseas, it's best to take care of your own safety.
Despite the sometimes terrifying stories, large cities are not much different from other countries. Tourists can feel quite calm and confident here. However, it is still important to know some rules.
In any city in Colombia, the safest part will be in the north. This is where wealthy people live and where the elite neighborhoods are located, characterized by absolute tranquility. The historic centers, dotted with numerous attractions, are also safe. This is largely due to the large number of police officers. It should be noted that they are very friendly and always ready to help both locals and visitors from distant countries. The only difficulty that may arise in communication is the language barrier. Few people in Colombia can understand English.
However, the southern regions are not recommended for tourists or even many locals. These areas are called “barrios” and have a fairly high crime rate.
Taking all this into account, it becomes clear that a safe and exciting vacation in Colombia is entirely possible. All you need to do is remember to be cautious, polite, and respectful at all times. Of course, this approach is relevant in any country.
