    Gentlemen:

Yesterday the WRTC Organizing Committee made what may be viewed as an effort to accept in part the International Olympic Committee (IOC) guidance. BUT the announcement language is too vague and effectively meaningless. Mission not accomplished. The OC demonstrates a continued reluctance to directly confront issues raised by the Ukraine War as related to WRTC2022. We are due a more transparent response from the Organizers.

Time is very short. Clarity of intentions is critical to participants as they make their individual decisions on whether to attend and participate.

The WRTC OC apparently wants to permit competitors from Russia and Belarus to attend WRTC2022. If they come representing their home nations, that would be an unacceptable solution. If they attend as NEUTRALS their presence could be in accordance with the IOC guidance, but only a compromise position which is not universally considered acceptable.

With this announcement, it appears Competitors, Judges and Referees from all but two countries (Russia and Belarus ) would be allowed to self-identify their national heritage in traditional ways. But the WRTC OC inexplicably refrains from specifically naming names of the aggressor countries making the pronouncement ambiguous, unclear and weak.

The WRTC OC now needs to further clarify their reasoning and intentions. We await a response.

    Respectfully,

    John Crovelli, W2GD

I cannot speak for the others here and looking at the attitude of the organizers, the thought of taking part in this event becomes more and more unpleasant but as you ask, then for me the starting point of anything is:

      - clear condemnation of russian agression against Ukraine in solidarity with the other sports’ organizations and clear prohibition of any display of russian state symbols of any kind in any form during the event.

      - any use of the terrorist symbolics or any signs of approval of the russian agression leading to removal from the event.

      - full disclosure of use of any funding of direct or indirect russian origin.

Before that happens there is nothing to talk about.

        All,

After seeing the traffic regarding point #1 (and #4), I apologize to EU hams for having spoken too soon and it is now clear that the OC position is not sufficiently clear for them. It is good progress, if the committee can just find the resolve to speak clearly and not try to avoid naming the relevant parties. Committee - if you are trying to find some neutral non-offensive way to do this, give up. There is no such way under these circumstances. Just be honest and clear.

On the other points, information is still sought.

        73,

            Hi all.
Seems to me, the WRTC 2022 OC understands very little about WRTC from the very beginning. They lost one year by doing nothing, they intended to organise operation from the tents, because this was well proved by two recent WRTC's but finally ended renting space at B&B's with no known RFI tests less than 100 days from the event! We have a feeling OC does not understand at all what might be a difference when antennas are located at the north or south part of the B&B buildings... Instead of making WRTC 2022 great and unforgettable event, the italian OC went to the dirty politics ignoring russian invasion in to Ukraine and killing tens of thousands of innocent people including children (according todays statistics at least 469 children were killed and 948 children were wounded), having information that more than 80 percents of russians supporting Putin's war, more than 30 percents of russians would support aggression on the Baltic countries..... Instead of excluding aggressors from the event, they officially prohibited flags and national anthems of the rest free and peaceful world! Can someone imagine this in any other sports event? We really doubt it.

The WRTC 2022 OC is not even capable of understanding that they cannot substitute our team with any other one. We must represent Lithuania with a high waving flag as the defending champions and not a team representing some strange selection area.

Considering all this, our decision is undoubtful - We are not coming to defend our title to Italy, despite We spent lot of the effort and money for the preparation - we bought new radios, we visited Italy twice for the training (IARU RS Championship 2021 and 2022), and finally we are prepared quite well.

Looking at the list of participants WRTC more closely found that there is no team of Roman UR0MC and instead the team of the Republic of Belarus, headed by EW6W.
                  Also missing team R2AA.
Team champions of the last WRTC withdrawn.
Also no team ES5TV, that is, representatives of the Baltic States have withdrawn from the competition, but there is a team of LY4A.

There are constant changes in the WRTC lineup.
The Russian team has changed, RL3FT dropped out and RA3AUU appeared in the team.
The team now RA3CO and RA3AUU.

Will you be a volunteer or guest who will be in Bologna, Italy for WRTC? If you are not actively involved over the contest period, why not come work the teams from around the world, in a comfortable, air-conditioned room in the HQ Hotel?

We had much fun doing this at WRTC2014 in Boston and WRTC2018 in Wittenberg!

In cooperation with the OC and with the help of Fabio, I4UFH, we have secured a room with fast Internet, and will have the equipment to support four remote operators.

Here are the stations we will have for remote operations:

In co-operation with George Wallner, AA7JV, the inventor of the Radio-in-a-Box (RIB) concept, NCDXA, and Don Greenbaum, N1DG, who recently completed the very successful VP6A DXPedition, they have arranged to give us exclusive access to a RIB located on George’s yacht, Magnet. It will be anchored near Fakarawa Atoll (FO) in the south Pacific (Grid Square BH91). Since it will not be in the country, it will be a /MM operation, and be from ITU Zone 63. Thanks to Dave Pascoe, KM3T, we will be using the call WR1TC/MM (The club call from WRTC in Boston 2014). Note that the RBN will report the correct location during the event.

Another rare ITU Zone is 75, in the high-arctic. Pierre Fogal, VE3KTB, runs the Polar Environment Atmospheric Research Laboratory (PEARL) Ridge Laboratory, located at 80 degrees 3 minutes N and 86 degrees 25 minutes W. Pierre is on site, and has arranged to let us operate remote for the contest. It will be another exciting Zone to pass out.

From South America, Dany Bernal, ZP5DBC, has a fantastic station in Asuncion, Paraguay, and is the host of the ZP5AA Club Call. For IARU, Dany’s station will be the HQ Station for Paraguay, multiplier RCP as the HQ station. Our remote will be the operators for this event.

Finally, we have two American powerhouse stations available. One is K2LE in Vermont, and NJ4P in Tennessee. As we set up next week, we will decide on which station to use.

We will demonstrate a number of remote technologies, including the Elecraft K3/0 remote, and simple remotes using a computer for station control, with Mumble for Audio.

Obviously, the competing teams don't compete for Zone Mults, but the rest of world will, and these remotes will add excitement to the mix, and they will all be chasing the teams.

Should you be interested to operate, if you prefer a particular headset, please bring it along. 3.5mm for speaker and Mic are preferred. You will be connecting to a computer.

We will have sign-up sheets available at WRTC HQ starting Wednesday, July 5th. In the meantime, if you are interested in operating, please sent an email to wrtcremotes@radiosport.network. Please tell us your name, callsign and home country. If you are licensed in more than one country, please indicate the countries in which you hold a license. if you have a WhatsApp number, please include it. Your license may determine which remote you can operate.
