The island of Rhodes – a place where the soul blossoms.
One of the most luxurious islands in Greece, Rhodes is the land of knights and a shining diamond of the Mediterranean, protected by the love of Helios himself. For many years, the Aegean Sea hid this delightful piece of land from mankind and the gods. But, if we recall an ancient legend, the sea decided to reveal its amazing secret. The waves parted and revealed the exquisite beauty of the island, which delighted even Zeus himself.
The island of Rhodes was named in honor of Helios' beloved, the nymph Rhodes. Thousands of years ago, the locals built the huge Colossus of Rhodes (a 36-meter-high statue), which was a powerful patron of the inhabitants of this beautiful land, but a strong earthquake destroyed this creation. Today's visitors to this amazing Greek island will not be able to see the statue of the Colossus of Rhodes, but they will have the opportunity to see many other attractions that have survived to this day.
The island of Rhodes is the pride of Greece.
Rhodes is the fourth largest island in sunny Greece. Its area reaches 1,398 square meters. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean. The natural resources of Rhodes Island are stunning, but that's not the only thing that attracts vacationers to this area. Numerous historical monuments and delightful architectural sites are also reasons to visit this amazing island.
What else attracts tourists to the island of Rhodes besides its natural wealth? It is impossible to describe all the notable places, but we will mention the most striking and interesting ones.

The Rhodes Fortress is a site with centuries of history
This structure was built in the 15th century, and at that time it was the most powerful and impregnable fortification, but years later it succumbed to the Turkish siege (the events took place in the 16th century). After the fortress was captured by Turkish troops, it began to “guard” the lands of this people. It defended Turkish lands from 1523 to 1912, until the island territory was conquered by the Italians.
Several decades later, the Rhodes Fortress once again became part of Greece. Throughout its long history, it has suffered “numerous wounds,” as in those distant times it was hit by about 1,000 cannonballs every day. Despite this, the structure remained in good condition and is ready to tell tourists about its difficult past.
Lindos – the heart of ancient civilization
The ancient settlement of Lindos deserves special attention from vacationers. Here you can visit perfectly restored buildings and a delightful post-Byzantine church with frescoes that have been preserved in perfect condition since the 18th century.
Visitors to this place will also be impressed by the giant mansions that belonged to the captains of merchant ships in the Middle Ages. These residential structures are built around inner courtyards of picturesque beauty. In addition, when visiting Lindos, be sure to visit the ancient acropolis and the Doric temple. These are just some of the attractive places where ancient and medieval traditions combine.
It is worth noting that the town of Lindos itself, as well as the nearby port, were founded around 1100 BC, while the structures that have survived to the present day began to be built in the 6th century BC, after which they were periodically rebuilt and expanded.
The delightful Valley of the Butterflies
This is a stunning nature reserve that will evoke a range of positive emotions. It is located on the island of Rhodes, approximately 30 kilometers from the capital. In reality, this reserve has nothing to do with a valley. It is more of a small park area that stretches along a gorge to the top of a hill. It is home to a huge number of butterflies that fill the empty and dreary gorge with life and “bright colors.”
Tourists who decide to visit the Butterfly Valley can see small waterfalls, mesmerizing stone ledges, and other “inhabitants” of this magical reserve, including rare species of birds, lizards, and crabs.
The Butterfly Valley has a pleasant microclimate. The fact is that the local rivers and lakes provide the necessary coolness and sufficient humidity. That is why not only all the inhabitants, including butterflies, but also guests of this fabulous place feel great in this reserve. The air is filled with the delicate scent of vanilla, because this small park is home to trees that are representatives of the styrax family, which are capable of secreting fragrant resin. These plants are very attractive to colorful insects, so a huge number of butterflies flying in from all over the surrounding area flock to these fragrant trees.
This is just a small part of the amazing, stunning, and romantic places that can be visited on the island of Rhodes, and every vacationer can see this for themselves by going on a Greek fairy tale.
