Although the Sun has been under-performing lately and things have gone quiet, we have another chance for some activity as a mini-solar storm has been launched in the Earth-strike zone and it will be followed by some fast solar wind. This means we might have a good chance for aurora over the holidays. Amateur radio and emergency responders also get the gift of a boosted solar flux thanks to region 2692, which should help radio propagation. GPS/GNSS operators are also in luck because 2692 is active, but not active enough to be a threat for radio blackouts. The Sun's face gets a lot more active this week with two coronal holes and two active regions rotating into Earth view. This means we get two more chances for some fast solar wind to cause us to reach solar storm conditions with some aurora while the Sun gives us a nice boost in the solar flux for radio propagation without any risk of big flares. The good news is just in time for the holidays for aurora photographers, amateur radio operators, and GPS operators. We await the arrival of a glancing blow from a mini-solar storm due to hit today. Although its not expected to be a strong impact, effects might be enhanced by some fast solar wind pushing it from behind. NOAA is expecting storm conditions, especially at high latitudes over the next day or so. Solar flux remains at the low end of marginal so while not optimal, HF radio propagation continues to limp along. At least we have no threat for any major flares and radio blackouts. The Sun's activity picks up this week with several pockets of fast wind expected to spark aurora at high latitudes. A slight chance for mid-latitude aurora also is expected later in the week. A new active region has also rotated into view this week and has given us a much needed boost in solar flux. Amateur radio operators and emergency responders should enjoy improved communications over HF radio for the next two weeks. Again we find ourselves with a spotless Sun, yet a huge solar storm hits Earth and brings stunning aurora clear down to Germany and Nebraska! This is due to the fast solar wind from a dark coronal hole that will linger in the Earth strike zone for the next day or two. This storm is compounding amateur radio issues we already are having due to the very low solar flux. Luckily, this will change next week. Active region 2673 continues to be very complex and will be an X-flare player until it rotates out of view around the Sun's west limb in a few days. Even though the eclipse is over the Sun remains busy. We have some fast wind expected to hit Earth in the next 24 hours that should raise us to storm levels. That will be compounded by a glancing blow from a solar storm going mainly west of Earth. Together these effects should bring us some decent aurora, possibly to mid-latitudes. We also have 3 active regions firing off C-class flares that are keeping the amateur radio

Space Weather this week has gotten extremely busy with a new M-flare player on the Sun. Region 2665 has already fired off two M-class flares, a radiation storm, and a massive solar storm that should hit earth by July 17. All of this is causing moderate issues with the amateur radio bands and issues with GPS/GNSS are expected, especially at high latitudes. On the positive side, when the solar storm hits, we could get a spectacular chance of seeing aurora down to mid-latitudes.
